I have the honour to inform you that I have receiveď a letter from the Minister of Communications to the following effect:-
"A large sun of money is urgently required in order to purchase rolling stock required for the X Canton-Kowloon hailway and to pay the Peking-ilukden Railway for rolling stock built by it on behalf of that line. This Ministry has bor- rowed a sum of £50,000 from the Company which originally lent funds for the construction of the Canton-Kowloon line, and an agreement for the advance of payments (on account of this loan) was made on the 6th instant, the agreement being signed by me as Minister of Communications, and having the approval of the minister of £uxxZİKKİİEE Finance. I have the honour
to forward herewith copies in Chinese and English of the agree. ment for your information, and to request that you will trans- mit them to the British -inister at Peking."
I have the honour to transmit to you the Chinese and English copies of the agreement for advance of payments as originally sent to me for your information, and to be placed on record by you.
