1 AM directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to acknowledge the receipt of your letters of the 19th instant, in one of which you express the hope that the Foreign Office will recommend to the India Office that the Government sales of opium should be postponed until the position in China improves.

In reply, I am to inform you that the India Office are furnished immediately with every information on the subject which reaches this department.

In accordance with the request contained in your second letter of the 19th instant, I am to euclose herewith a copy of the circular instructions issued by the President of the Chinese Republic on the 15th June, 1911.
