Sir,

I have the honour to record receipt of your telegrams

Nes. 22 and 20 of the 7th. anu leth. instant having re-

ference to a suggestion adopted by the Wai Wu Pu for the

settlement of the limestone case.

On the 8th. instant I forwarded & paraphrase of your

Telagren. No. 22 to the Company's agents in Canton, advising

them to accept the survastion. They informed mu varbally

afterwards tilt the directors in Hongkong wished to know whether the proposed settlement had the approval of the

Tu Tu. I replieu that, before approaching the Tu Tu wn the subject, I must first know whether the Company woule apres to accept a settlement on these lines. To thie quer, I obtained no definite reply ·
