With reference to your letter No.37175/1909,

regarding the removal to England of a prisoner named

Ioberts, confined in the Straits Settlements, under the

Colonial Prisoners Removal Act, 1884, I am directed by

Secretary Sir F. Grey to transmit to you herewith copy

of a telegram which has been received from His

Pajesty's Consul-General at Shanghai, relative to a

female prisoner named Monteith now in prison at

Hongkong.

I am to request that you will be good enough to

make the necessary arrangements with the Governor of

Hongkong for the woman's transfer to the United

Kingdom.

Subject to the sanction of the Treasury the ex-

penses of Monteith's journey will be borne by this

Office, and a letter has been addressed to the Fome

Office asking if that Department will be prepared to
