maintained and worked by the Navy. It will be necessary for the Colony to continue to make a contri- bution in respect of the Victoria Peak Signal Station, after the visual station at Cape d'Aguilar is abandoned, and I am to request that the Colonial Government may be instructed to make proposals on this point, as reference to the Treasury (who sanctioned the previous agreement) will be required.
4.- As regards the site their Lordships are of
opinion that the position at or near Cape d'Aguilar is
the most suitable from a Wireless Telegraph point of view,
but consider that the defence of a Station in this site
is not practicable. They are further of opinion that
it should be clearly recorded that the Station was
erected on the understanding that no defence, beyond the arming of Naval ratings when the apparatus is worked by
them, will be accorded to the Station either now or in
future. Further that, although the Station may be kept in operation during war, it may be dismantled or rendered useless at any time on orders to that effect being received from the Governor. The Army Council have
signified their concurrence in the views expressed in
this paragraph.
5.- My Lords concur that it will not be necessary to make any communication to the Marconi Company.
