GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 27th. November, 1913.

Sir,

mo. /34865-

In reply to your Despatch No. 309 of the 14th.

October, 1913, I have the honour to inform you that there is no

restriction in this Colony as to the name under which a Company

may choose to trade so long as it does not conflict with the name of any other Company on the register and that there are only two Companies registered with the word "British" forming part of their titles viz:- The British Cigarette Company, Limited, and the British and Belgian Industrial Bank of China, Limited. The word "English" does not occur in the title of any Company.

2.

It would seem therefore that the letter from

the Secretary of the British Engineers' Association was written under a misapprehension and I do not consider that there is any urgent need for legislation in the direction indicated.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

ClaudSevem

Officer Administering the Government.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

LEWIS HARCOURT, M.P.,
