Heiang Shan. At Ku Tu near Hsiang Shan robbers burnt the
military barracks on September 30, captured two men and

Hain Hui Nan Le Li Hsiang. 70 or 80 robbers robbed the whole district. Out of some 2,000 houses only 3 or 4
were not touched.

Namhoi Tzu Tung Hsu.

72 Hang Shang Pao 6. Over a hundred pirates have opened
in addition exact toll from all
vessels passing up and down. They have now demanded $10,000 from the merchants. Nan Yueh Pao 7. P'an Yu Tai Ho Shih. The Kerchants have written to the
newspapers complaining that all their goods are held up by a notorious brigand, a former soldier. Toung Shang

P'an Yu -Ta Shan Heiang. This village containing over 10,000 souls, was deserted by its inhabitants so terrified were they of a society of brigands.The latter posted up a proclamation that if the people made any attempt to es- -cape down the river their blood would be on their own heads. Namhoi. Telegram from Chinese merchants in Hongkong stating that so inefficient are the measures taken for the suppression of piracy in Namhoi, that all business is
Taung Shang stopped and everyone has turned pirate.

Hsiang Shan Wei Ch'ung. A boat named Chieh Hsing was pirat-

A skirmish occurred between some of
Lung Chin-kuang's men and the brigands of this district.
Of the former two were killed and several wounded, while,
of the latter, eight were captured.
