Hongkong, 10th. October, 1913.

Sir, Rrd 13 NOV 13

We have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 29th. ultimo with reference to the Property known as Morrison Hill.

The Government's proposal will be submitted to Sir Robert Jardine but we would point out that in view of the large area required for the extension of the Recreation Ground and for the construction of the proposed roads we consider that the portion of ground coloured yellow on the plan sent to us and mark- -ed with the letter 'U' should be included in the area to be returned to the Owner of M.L. 84 on the completion of the cutting down of the Hill.

It must be borne in mind that the large portion of the ground returned situated between the Recreation Ground and Wanchaf

Road could only be developed by the construction of one or more streets, the entire area for which would have to be supplied by the Owner. For purposes of development it would also be necessary to have access to Wanchai Road at two points at least.

With reference to the proposal of the Government to issu

new crown leases for the areas coloured red on the plan we would

prefer that the boundaries of the existing crown lease be ad-

-justed to the new area.

Before submitting the above proposal to Sir Robert

Jardine we beg to enquire whether the Government would be willing.

as an alternative to resume the Property and if so at what price.

We have etc.,

(Sd.) Jardine, Matheson & Co., Ltd.

Hon. Mr. A. M. Thomson,

Colonial Secretary.
