In connection with my Despatch No. 365 of even

date, I have the honour to inform you that I have been in comunica-

-tion with Mr. D. Landale, head of the firm of Messrs. Jardine,

Matheson and Company, Limited, with a view to ascertaining the term on which his principal Sir Robert Jardine would be willing to allow Morrison Hill to be cut away in order to provide the filling for the proposed reclamation in Wanchai Bay. The hill referred to is almost entirely comprised in Inland Lot 84, which is held under a 999 years' lease by Sir Robert Jardine.

The proposal put forward by the Government by direction of Sir Henry Lay, and subject to your approval, was as

follows:-

(a). Inland Lot 84, which contains 18.15 acres or 790,614 square feet to be surrendered to the Government, the areas shown in red on the enclosed plan (marked No. 1) being returned to the owner on completion of the cutting

down of the hill.

(b). Any buildings on Inland Lot 84 to be pulled down by the

ommer at his own expense, when required by Goverment. (c). Crown Rent for Inland Lot 84 to diminish in proportion to the diminution in rental resulting from the demolition of buildings as specified in (b).
