necessary. A Mok Ki-pang is head of the party referred to."
Mr. Cheung Hok Ling brought the letter down.
He saw Mr. King on Monday evening, stated that thing were in a bad state at Canton, and that trouble about another revolution might start that night.
On Monday morning September Mr. Cheung Hok Ling, who had just been made an Assistant Commissioner of the Canton Police saw me. He stated that he went up on Sunday night by the S. S. "Tatshan" to Canton. There were a lot of suspicious people on board occupying cabins 4, 6, and 7. It was so noticeable that the Compradore offered to lend a revolver to Mr. Chan for his protection, as some of these men were looking throughthe window into his cabin. Amongst them were two Wai Chau men, who had been military officials under Wong Hing at Nanking. There was also Lan Tsik Min, a member of the Kwok lian Tong, who spoke to Mr. Chan asking him why he did not help them as he was originally one of their party, and asking him that in case of another revolution whether his police would not assist or remain neutral. Mr. Chan
replied that in any such case he would tell his men to shoot them.
