the public to adopt the courteous style usual in official corres-

-pondence.

On the lat. September I presented to Miss Dunk of the Church Missionary Society a travelling clock and a Bible,

which had been purchased at the suggestion of Sir Henry May in

recognition of her courage on the occasion of the piracy of the

"Tai On". I enclose copies of the correspondence with Miss Dunk.

Owing to her absence from Hongkong it was not possible to make the

presentation before Sir Henry May went on leave.
