GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG. 12th. September, 1913.

sir.

Gor

25997

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

your Despatch No. 226 of the 5th. of August in which you have expres

-sed your willingness to consider the grant of a bonus to Mr. Jacks

if it is shown that he has had to perform a considerable amount of

extra work.

2.

I enclose a copy of a statement which Mr. Jacks has prepared at my request on the subject of the extra work which

he has had to perform. On an average I should say that he has had

to work nearly three hours a day beyond the ordinary official hours, and so far as I have been able to judge since my return to the Colony in July his work has been well and carefully done.

I have the honour to be,

sir.

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Claudjevern

Officer Administering the Government.

LEWIS HARCOURT, H.P..
