Calf Lymph Operations.

During the six months (Jan. 1st to June 30th) twelve

calves have been inoculated, nine Buffalo calves and three

English calves. Of these, one calf died of Rinderpest and one

did not take well, the rest gave apparently good lymph which has

been stored at-10°C till required.

A continuous supply of lymph has been kept up during

the period and 5782 tubes have been issued.

As an instance of the great value of cold storage of

lymph in a hot climate such as HongKong, it may be of interest

to record that tubes of a lymph made by me over three years ago

and kept in the Cold Store were issued this year at the hottest

season and were reported on as giving excellent results. It is

now quite practical to make lymph only at the most suitable

season 1.0. in the cold weather and still have a continuous supply

of lymph all through the year.

The addition of clove oil to lymph as a purifying agent

as recommended by Dr. Blaxall (appendix C. Report of Medical

Officer, Local Govt. Board 1911 12) is also being tried and

the results will be reported when sufficient experience has been

required.
