Mr. McElderry being appointed to act as First Assistant to the Secretary for Chinese Affairs while r. Lloyd was appointed to act as Deputy Registrar and Accountant of the Supreme Court.

3.

For performing the duties of the two Deputy Registrars during the four months of Mr. Lee-Jones' full pay leave Mr. McElderry was granted a special allowance at the rate of £50 a year which I regret was not at the time reported to you. This, how- -ever, ceased from the 27th. June when half-pay became available and I have the honour to recommend that in respect of overtime worked from the 27th. June to the 4th. August inclusive Mr. McElderry should be granted a bonus of $100. He did a considerable amount of work out of office hours and performed the duties of both Registrars to Mr. Nisbet's entire satisfaction.

I have the honour to be, Sir.

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Claud Severn

Officer Administering the Government
