31429 With reference to my Confidential Despatch of

the 9th. August, I have the honour to report that on the 11th.

August the Captain of the Chinese Gunboats in Hongkong called on

the Commodore to say that he was leaving at 10 A.M. on that day to

join General Lung at Canton with all five Gunboats. The five Gun-

-boats left Hongkong accordingly.

Information has been received from the Chinese

Chief of Police in Canton that General Lung arrived in Canton on

the morning of the 11th. August. All is quiet there at present.
