Gunboat "Po Pik" at Hongkong.
L
112
Under instructions from the Tu Tu, the gunboat *Po Fik" was proceeding to Pakhoi when, on arrival at Hongkong on the 24th. instant, she was detained for several days by a typhoon.
While there, it is reported, the Harbour Master sent a steam- -launch to her assistance and she was towed to Wanchai, for which service the Kuangtung Government are deeply grateful. The "Po Pik" was unable to continue her voyage, having sustained damage to her
Machinery, and she is still anchored at Wan Chai.
The Tu Tu proposes to send an officer with a steam
launch to tow her back to Canton and he would be obliged if His
Majesty's Consul-General would request the good offices of His
Excellency the Governor of Hongkong and also provide a letter of
introduction to the officer in question for presentation to the
Commodore so that the gunboat may be released. The existing good
relations between the Colony and the Provincial Government will be
strengthened thereby.
Signature and Seal of Lo P'an-hui,
Commissioner of Foreign Affairs.
