No. I in 134/1906.
Sir,
No. 21.
418
Government House,
Hongkong, 16th. September, 1911.
In reply to your letter of the 11th. ultimo on
the subject of the Mount Davis Batteries, I have the honour to agree to Your Excellency's suggestion that the approach road lead- ing from the Victoria Road near the practice Battery up to the Batteries proper should be held as a lilitary Reserve. Seeing that it is proposed to grant "clearance rights" over the entire hillside, thus, it is understood, bringing the whole area under the designa- -tion of "Military Reserve Land", it would appear unnecessary to make separate provision for this strip of road in the schedule of Military Lands and I suggest that the road be treated as a right- -of-way belonging to the Military Authorities who may in their discretion prevent its use by any person without their authority. Its maintenance would of course be a matter for the Military Authori -ties.
2.
As regards the clearance area dealt with in paragraph 3 of the letter under reply, there is no objection to the inclusion of the area to the eastwards shown on the plan which accompanied your letter provided access to that portion of the Mount Davis Cemetery which falls within the new boundary will not be interfered with. I have the honour to request that the north- -eastern boundary line shown in yellow upon the said plan which is returned here with may be altered as shown in blue as it is desired to exclude the site of certain Dyeing and Cleaning Works shown on the plan as "Proposed Lot".
If Your Excellency agrees, I shall be glad to receive from you a plan showing the boundaries of the Clearance Area as finally determined so that they may be recorded in this office. The area will then be ascertained and you will be notified
