Before taking any further steps as to the value of

the land required at Mount Davis for batteries, it would be of assistance to me if you could kindly give me the data on which the valuation of the land is arrived at, such as the price paid for

some plot in the vicinity.

It is of course obvious that the value of the site

under reference is immensely reduced by its being so isolated from any road or water supply, and so distant from business centres,

and there is hardly a spot within the area affected where any dwellings could be built without much earth-cutting and heavy

revetment walls.

The road now under construction and water supply have both been found by the War Department and cannot be consider- -ed in valuing the ground.
