In continuation of my letter llo. A/7966/1, dated 2nd. instant, I now return your plan on which I have caused to

be shown

(1). The area required by the War Department for defence

A,B,C,D,E.

purposes

(2). The trace of the portion of approach road which lies

outside that area..

There will be no Military objection to mining out- -side the area shown, and not witain 100' of the road of approach.

This area will shortly be marked out, when it can

be surveyed, computed and valued, and the necessary transfer docu- -ment drawn up for joint signature.

Meanwhile formal permission is now desired to com- -mence digging trial pits within the reserved area, and to go on with the road, which will be 10' in width.

I have only pencilled in the area on your plan as

you may require it for other purposes.

I have etc.,

(Sd.) C. H. Darling,

Colonel,

for General Officer Commanding the Troops,

South China Command.

(absent on leave).

His Excellency

The Officer Administering the Government,

Hongkong.
