Following telegram has been received from
"President of the Republic has sent
me a private letter to the following effect. The
central Government have ordered Chinese men of war in
Canton waters to leave area controlled by rebels. Three have already done so and are reported to have arrived at Hong Kong waters, while the remaining six
will also remain loyal and follow. He would be grate- ful if these loyal ships are allowed to remain in the waters of Hong Kong" ends. I propose to reply that
there is no objection to ships referred to remaining
here. Up to date only one gun boat and two salt
revenue cruisers have arrived. Canton Government has
asked permission to tow gun boat to Canton. 1 have
refused to allow (? first) to be moved without per-
mission of Captain.
Hostilities in Kuangtung have been stopped by
heavy rain and the Governor General is reported to
have fled.
