Chan Shing, Kaster of Trading Junk T995H reports that on
the 9th. instant while his junk was at anchor at Wu Chu ki (Heung- -ghan district) he was pirated by two small boats each containing
10 men.
It was raining at the time and we did not see the boats
approach the junk as we were all in shelter in the hold. They came on board and pointing rifles and mauser pistols at us kept us be- -low while they ransacked the junk taking away some clothing, a few dollars and all the arms and ammunition (3 muskets, 2 gingals, 6 lbs. bullets, 8 lbs. powder and 2 boxes percussion caps) after which
they went back to their boats and rowed off in the direction of Wu
Chu Mi.I then raised anchor and sailed to Taishan where I have
reported the matter to the Customs officials there.
