ment Assessor, in the latter part of last year. Dust bin notices

have been served on these houses on all floors, and were complied

with last year. As the offence was still being committed from

the upper floors, I looked up to see if there were any signs of

refuse adhering to the balconies of these houses, to try and lo-

cate the persons who were offending. I noticed a new wooden

partition extending the whole length of the balcony with a heavy

sunblind supported by the eves of the gutters at 51, Queen'a

Road East, third floor. As this is a contravention of section 175

of the Public Health and Buildings Ordinance; also these houses

not being provided with a yard, the lane to rear is allowed to count as open space, and the rear portion of the house must not

in any way be obstructed. I went up to this floor, knocked at the door, and asked permission of a Portuguese woman to inspect the premises, or kitchen and rear balcony. This was granted.
