Under the provisions of the Rope Company's Tramway Ordinance, 1901 certain powers of constructing and maintaining a small Tramway to faci- litate the carriage of freight to and from its premises was granted to

the Ordinance the rights, powers and privileges granted to the Company were to be operative for a period of Ten years from the 15th December 1901 with the provision that the Governor-in-Council might from time to time as ight be thought expedient declare by Order published in the Garette that the duration of the rights, powers and privileges granted should be extended for any further term or terms not exceeding Ten years
at a time.
2/- The ten years period duly expired on the 15th December 1911 but by an oversight which was not noticed until during the course of the now proceeding revision of the Ordinances, no order was made by the Governor in-Council extending the duration of the rights, powers and privileges originally granted under the Ordinance and in consequence, although it had been the intention of the Government that these rights, powers and privileges should not be allowed to fail, such rights, powers and pri- vileges rere in fact allowed to come legally to an end.
3/- The object of the present Ordinance is to revive retrospectively the rights conferred by the original Ordinance for a short period so as to give a further opportunity of enabling the question of their
to further extension be considered by the Governor-in-Council before the expiration of the period for which the extension'is by this Ordinance
now prescribed.
4/ In my opinion this is an Ordinance to which His Excellency the Governor may properly assent in the name of His Majesty and on His behal
