A report has been received from the Committee appointed by the Governor of the Straits Settlements, recommending
a site at Bukit Panjang in the sentre
of the island of Singapore for the transmitting and near Sungei Layang (west of the Johore river) in Johore for the receiving station.
Colonel Macdonogh and Commander Kettlewell agreed that these sites appeared satisfactory. Colonel Macdonogh observing that from the military point of view Bukit Panjang was if anything
better than the site previously
proposed at Bukit Brown. It was accordingly agreed that the sites might be accepted subject to the Contractor's
approval. The report indicated that the cost of the Bukit Panjang site would be about £6,000, and that the site in Johore might be acquired at a reasonable price,
Mr. Gunton said that the figures
in the report as to the comparative
cost of coal and fuel indicated that
there was primâ facie a case for the
use of Diesel plant.
