Sir,

Hongkong, 11th. February, 1913.

Your world wide reputaion as a generous supporter

of Education emboldens me to venture to address you on the subject of the present need of the newly established University of Hong- -kong for financial assistance.

-

I enclose a print, in which my immediate predecessor in office Sir F. Lugard has explained the position, constitut- -ion, objects, and prospects of the University, together with a list of subscribers to the Endowment Fund and copy of a letter, addressed by me in November last to the Chairman of our Committee in London, which shows our need for financial help.

Since that letter was written most welcome assist- -ance has been received from various firms in England in presents of apparatus for the Engineering School, as detailed in the attache list, but urgent need still exists of the means to employ more teachers in this school and in other Faculties.

The University is also without a Library of books, though it possesses a fine room in which to keep any it may

acquire.

In these circumstances any help which you may be disposed to give the University will be most gratefully received and will be of the greatest assistance in furthering the objects for which the institution was established.

Andrew Carnegie,

Esq..
