gir,

Commodore's Office,

Hongkong, 8th. April, 1913.

Wireless Folography Station at Cane d'Amilar.

In reply to Your Excellency's letter No. 1400/1910

of 4th. ultimo and in continuation of my letter No. 265 of 31st.

idem, I am now able to observe as follows:-

2.

The staff of the Naval Signal Station at Cape D'Aguilar do certain commercial work to meet the requirements of th Colonial Harbour Master. They also report movements of men-of-war passing; but, in peace time, they are actually from a Naval point of view little more than caretakers.

3.

If a Colonial Government Wireless Telegraphy Installation is provided at Cape D'Aguilar, I presume the movements of Merchant shipping will be reported by the Wireless Telegraphy Station, the staff of which could probably also furnish the Colonial Harbour Master with the other reports required, i.e. they will perform the duties at present carried out by the Naval Signal

Station.

of The duplication of this commercial work is, course unnecessary, and it is undesirable that there should be divided responsibility (vide letter from H.E. the Governor, dated

5th. May, 1905).

5.

I have therefore to suggest for consideration that the whole building and station should revert to the Colonial Goverment, provided that the latter would undertake

(a) to carry out the Naval work now done in peace time (b) that on mobilization, either in peace time or for war, the control of the station should rest with the Navậy, and adequate accommodation and facilities should be afforded for the naval staff that would be employed

there.

6.

I would observe that when a Naval Tireless Installa- -tion was under trial at Cape D'Aguilar in 1905/6 the erection of the Wireless Telegraphy mast either on or against the lighthouse
