The Colonial Secretary,

Hongkong.

Dear Sir,

Manila.

C.O.

Bureau of Science, 11853 Philippine Islands 131 5th. February 19APR 13.

When in Hongkong a few days ago I heard that there was likely to be a vacancy for an Assistant Analyst in the Government Laboratory.

If such be the case I should like to submit ny name

for your favourable consideration.

I received my scientific training at the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, the four years course embracing Chemistry, Inorganic, Organic and Physical, also Physics, Geology, Mineralogy, Mechanics, Machine Drawing, and Mathematics. After taking the above course and obtaining the Diploma conferring

the degree of Associate, I left for Sydney, Australia, where I live

for a year doing work for Mr. Hamlet, the Government Analyst and

also for several dairy Companies. In August, 1911, I received an

appointment as Chemist in the Organic Chemistry Division, Bureau

of Science, Manila, which post I am holding at the present time.

For a period of some months I was Acting Chief of

the Division which includes seven qualified chemists. The work on

which I have been engaged has been of a very varied character in- -cluding a good deal of food analysis in connection with the enfor- -cement of the Pure Food Act, together with analyses of paint, paper, opium, patent medicines, essential oils also toxicological work, for which latter I have been solely responsible. I am 24 years of age and am receiving at the present time a salary of £330

per annum.

Should Government see fit to entertain my applica -tion I should be glad to receive particulars of post if such exist. I enclose copies of testimonials.

Respectfully yours,

(Sd.) E. R. Dovey.
