Education and of fixing a curriculum of instruction would take'
time and that in accordance with the practice of this Government
the leading Chinese would be consulted in the matter, while the
financial aspect of the matter would be subject to scrutiny in Legislative Council.
Mr. Lau Chu-pak said that the Vernacular Board
had done no good at all. Its Chinese members had not the necessary
leisure to go about collecting subscriptions. They had not the
entree to the schools to learn what was really being taught in them
He considered that many so-called schools were schools in nume
only. He agreed that the control should be taken over by the Government. He had no objection to the abolition of the Board.
The other Chinese members present one and all expressed their concurrence in the views expressed by Mr. Lau Chu-
-pak.
