I have the honour to apply most respectfully that you
will be graciously pleased to move that I may be appointed of His
Majesty's Counsel for Hongkong.
I took my degree of B. A. at Oxford in 1694.
I was called to the Bar in 1896 and am a Member of the
Inner Temple and Midland Circuit.
I graduated M. A. in 1897.
I practised at the English Bar until 1902 and can with
confidence refer to the Lord Chief Justice of England Lord Justice
Fletcher Houlton and Mr. A. J. Walter, King's Counsel, for any
recommendation which may be required relative to my work during
that period.
I was appointed Commissioner of Patents in the Transvaal
in 1902; a Justice of the Peace and an Advocate of the Supreme
Court of the Transvaal in the same year; a Member of the Legisla-
tive Council of the Transvaal in 1904; and a Legal Adviser to the
Transvaal and Chairman of Committees of the Legislative Council
in 1906.

I was appointed King's Advocate of Cyprus and a member
of the Legislative and Executive Councils of that Island in 1907.
I was an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Cyprus and practised
privately in cases in which the Government is not concerned.
In July 1910 Iapplied to be appointed of His Majesty's
1366 Counsel for Cyprus but owing to the peculiar circumstances of that Cyprees.
