sir.

I have the honour to request that a suitable candidate may be selected for the post of Second Mistress at the Belilios Public School in succession to Miss C. H. Pearce who has

tendered her resignation with effect from the 16th. April next. I shall be glad if Mrs. Tutcher may be consulted with regard to the

selection.

2.

It was stated in your Despatch No. 65 of the

1st. March, 1911, that in the opinion of the Board of Education

the salary offered to Miss Pearce, at the rate of £180 £220, was not sufficient to attract a suitable candidate, and in your Des- -patch No. 250 of the 14th. August, 1912, you sugested in the case of Miss Anderson a salary of £200, rising to £220 upon ap- -pointment to the pensionable establishment after three years' service. I have accordingly to recommend that the salary of the new Second Mistress should be at the latter rate. A form of parti-

-culars of the office is enclosed.

3.

I may take this opportunity to recommend that Mrs. Bishop, Second Mistress at the Victoria British School, should from the 1st. January, 1914, be placed upon a similar scale of salary in lieu of her present rate of 8960 - 81,200. Mrs. Bishop is fully certificated and she is reported to be an excellent teacher, worthy in every way of the sterling rate of pay devised for Mistresses with her qualifications. The number of pupils at the school is rapidly increasing, and the importance of her work
