In continuation of my Confidential Despatch of

the 10th. instant, I have the honour to inform you that the pros-

-pect of the cessation of the boycott is at date much brighter as

may be gathered from the accompanying list of fares collected each

day from the beginning of the month.

These figures represent fares actually collect-

-ed on the cars and are in addition to a certain amount obtained by

the sale at the Company's office of large blocks of tickets which

were sold at a reduced price at the request of the leading Chinese,

their object being to send their employees and others to journey on the cars for the purpose of showing that the boycott was terminst

-ed.
