Translation of Contract between Wendt & Co. as Agents of the
Planters Association of Apia, Samoa, and the Chinese laborerg
the following contract has been agreed upon:-
1. The laborer engaged for Samoa has to do plantation work only, no
dangerous nor hard work.
The laborer shall work 10 hours a day, but if the temperature is above 100° Fahrenheit only 9 hours.
3. The laborer to get monthly wages of M 15.

The laborer is entitled to an extra remuneration for each hour he works over 10 hours a day.

The Contract to last 3 years, to commence from day of arrival of steamer at Samoa (Apia).
7. The employer pays the cost of passage to Apis and back and provides
sufficient food and medical attendance during the trip. When going a- -board at Swatow the Laborer gets $10 and $3 as free payment.
B. The employer will provide free of charge sufficient food, suitable
house accommodation (including bed and mosquito curtain) and medical
attendance.
9. The employer will remit the savings of the laborer to China free of
Commission and will also forward his letters free of postage. 10/11. In case of sickness wages will be paid in accordance with Govern-
-ment Regulations.

The laborer must be treated like any other marı.
In case of disputes the laborer may go to the Protector of Chinese or to the Chinese Consul and ask for protection. He must not be treated
cruelly or beaten.
The laborer must not leave the plantation without permission. 15. After expiration of contract the laborer will be sent back to China
at the expense of the employer.
16.
Should a new treaty about emigration be concluded between China daer
and Germany, the laborer to get the benefit of any advantage in such treaty.
17. The conditions of this contract have been approved by the Government
of Samoa.
