to afford a higher Education to Chinese, (whether from China or the Colony), which shall not only be very much cheaper (say £60 as against £300 per annum) than a similar University Education in Europe or America, but shall at the same time allow Chinese Studerts to acquire a degree without the long residence in the West which tends to denationalise them. In the Hong Kong University the Student will be educated in his own natural environment, in touch with his own people, and the University lays very special stress on the training of character, and the inculcation of high Moral Ideals, and Standards of Life.
It is intended that the Degree shall be of the same standard as that obtained at a British Uni- versity, and with this object in view arrangements are being made for the conduct of Examinations by or in co-operation with a Home University.

The Fees will not exceed 230 per annum. Board and lodging being probably about an equal
