Dear Harding,

I remember that when a Director of Education in West Africa was last under consideration, the question was raised whether some of these thinking masters might not be considered; but it was not known much about them.

I think Mr. Garrett - who has pleasant manners & seems a thoughtful, agreeable sort of man - ought certainly to be considered. [He is now on leave on full pay of £360-£480].

The only Confidential Report we have in is "An energetic, persevering & good all-round man". Are there any vacancies in your part of the world at present.

Yours,

H.K. Jecks

Mr. Garrett, who has been in the Education Department of ... will call to-morrow, Friday. I hope he was just your junior at St. John's and is a nephew of Sikes', the Tutor. We have a very high opinion of him here. I don't know that you will be able to do anything for him direct, but you can no doubt put him on to others who can answer his questions. If you could, I should be very much obliged.

Faithfully yours,
