Dear Harding,
I remember that when a Director of Education in West Africa was last under consideration, the question was raised whether some of these thinking masters might not be considered; but it was not known much about them.
I think Mr. Garrett - who has pleasant manners & seems a thoughtful, agreeable sort of man - ought certainly to be considered. [He is now on leave on full pay of £360-£480].
The only Confidential Report we have in is "An energetic, persevering & good all-round man". Are there any vacancies in your part of the world at present.

Not Nigeria, I think? Any Colonies like Hong Kong for some years, you can manage to seek him out or less liked him. I only knew him by sight at St John's. He asked whether his name was likely he could be seconded to yourmon Four See. I thought not as I said. Mr. Garrett, who has been in the Education Department of ... will call to-morrow, Friday. I hope he was just your junior at St. John's and is a nephew of Sikes', the Tutor. We have a very high opinion of him here. I don't know that you will be able to do anything for him direct, but you can no doubt put him on to others who can answer his questions. If you could, I should be very much obliged.
