8 Jarrell Mansions,
Queen's Club Gardens,
West Kensington.
June 24th 1912.
Sir,
I regret to have to inform you that I may be compelled to retire on pension from the service of the Government on or about the 7th July next, when I shall have reached fifty years of service, the limit fixed on the 31st December last.
The state of my health and the preparations for the marriage of my elder son and the state of health of his stepmother have determined me in deciding to take this step.
I regret very much
