6. If finally selected for the appointment, you will be provided with a free first class passage to

Hong Kong by a steamer other than a mail steamer, subject to an undertaking to repay its cost in the event

of your leaving the service of the Government within

three years from the date of your arrival in the Colony for any other reason than mental or physical infirmity. You will be required to enter into an

agreement to this effect with the Crown Agents for the Colonies and to find one surety for its due performance. In the alternative, if you prefer not to provide a surety, a deduction of 156 will be made from your

salary for the first three years in consideration of

the cost of your passage. The amount so deducted will

be paid over to you on the satisfactory completion of

three years' service. If you accept the appointment

you should state which of these alternatives you would

prefer to accept.
