are payable in the Colony in dollars at a rate of exchange fixed monthly by the Government and based on the average exchange value of the dollar during the month ending on the 15th day of the month in respect of which the payment is made. When, however, such average value exceeds 2/- salaries are paid at 2/- to
the dollar.
2. It is to be understood that your engagement
is for not more than three years from the date of your arrival in the Colony; and that, if it is esta blished to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are not qualified for efficient service there, he will, subject to the confimation of the Secretary of State, have full power to cancel your appointment at any time within the said three years without giving you any further compensation than a passage back to England, which will be granted only if the Governor is satisfied that you have, by your good conduct deserved it.
