I have the honour to report that Sir H.de
Sausmarez showed me a few days before despatching
it his draft for an Order in Council for the
establishment at Shanghai of a registry of joint-
stock companies, of which, I believe, he is send-
ing a copy to his Majesty's Legation.
When 1 demurred to the proposed extension of
Hongkong Jurisdiction and the appointment of a
colonial officer to be in charge of the registry,
he said these were points for His Majesty's Govern-
ment and under the impression that my opinion was
to be confined to the details of a cut and dried
scheme
I agreed that his draft dealt satisfac-
torily with the question, always supposing that
Sir John Jordan, 3.0.1.4., K.C.B., K.C J..G.
