SECTION 1.
[16604]
(No. 155.) Sir,
No. 1.
Sir J. Jordan to Sir Edward Grey.-(Received April 20.)
Peking, April 1, 1912. I HAVE the honour to transmit to you herewith, in translation, a copy of a letter which I have received from the president of the Wai-wu Pu, requesting ine to convey to His Majesty's Government grateful appreciation of the approval which was accorded by the British representatives at the recent Hague Conference to the resolutions put forward by China, and which in great measure enabled them to be passed.
I take this opportunity of placing on record the unfriendly attitude of many of the provincial authorities to the opium agreement of the 8th May last, whose terms the
I have, &c. Provisional Government of China shows little disposition to observe.
Sir,
Enclosure in No. 1.
Wai-wu Pu to Sir J. Jordan,
J. N. JORDAN,
March 28, 1912.
INFORMATION has been received from Liang, the Chinese representative to Germany, who attended the International Opium Conference at The Hague as delegate plenipotentiary, that at the recent Hague Conference all the resolutions put forward by China were passed, owing in great measure to the support afforded by the approval of the British representatives, for which sincerest thanks are due.
I have the honour, therefore, in acquainting you with this information, to express the hope that you will convey to His Majesty's Government our genuine and grateful
1 avail, &c. appreciation.
HU WEI-TE.
