sir.

In my despatchi

No. 55 of the 1st of March last

I had the honour to state that I had received a reply

from the United States Government regarding the question

of the deportation of Chinese to llong Kong and that in

view of the unsatisfactory nature of the reply I had

caused the Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Labour

to be approached privately on the subject.

I have now the honour to transmit to you herewith

copy of a letter from the Department of Commerce and

Labour to the State Department showing the result of

these further negotiations. The attitude of the United

States Government now appears to be satisfactory and I

should be interested to learn whether the decisions they

have arrived at fully meet the wishes of the Government

of Hong Kong.

I have the honour to be

With the highest respect,

siz,

Your most obedient,

humble Servant,

Fumes Cine.

The Right Honourable,

Sir Edward Grey, Bart., K.G.,

etc., etc.. etc..
