the 29th. December last on the subject of the refusal of the

Boy" marks of the British Cigarette Company of Hongkong I am
directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit to you here-
with a copy of a Despatch and enclosures which have been

Sir E. Grey is of the opinion that, although the ex-
planation of their attitude offered by the Japanese Patent
Bureau is far from satisfactory, and entirely evades the real
point at issue, there would be no advantage in pressing the

application of the British Cigarette Company in respect of
the marks in question which have now been registered by the
