I have at length received a reply regarding the

question of the deportation of Chinese to Hong Kong, but

it wee drafted in the ebrence of the Assistant Secretary

of Commerce and Labour, and as it shows no intelligent

appreciation of the situation and proposer no solutien

of the difficulties it is not worth while troubling you

with it.

The asistent bearetary has now returned and has

been approached privately on the mobject.

There are three classes of deported Chinese, vizi-

(1) Those that are excluded on landing and ere zent

back by the earliest steeper whence they come.

(2) Those win are found to be illegally in the

country and are deported to the place from which they

declare they came.

(7) Those who are relepend from geel on condition

that they retura to their country.
