Owing
to the large surface of aerial this would almost be an
impossibility.
3.- A site on the Southern side of the Island was also visited, but, although providing the required area and an excellent earth surface, it was too much screened.
4. As no other site on the Island appeared to be at all suitable, the choice was therefore confined to the main- land. The ideal position would therefore seen to be on the Kowloon Peninsula, at some place equidistant from Hong Kong Island and the range of hills to the north.
5.- The railway reclamation ground at once suggested itself, but on account of its great value to the Colony, it was considered out of the question.
6.- The site which was finally decided on is to the east of Kowloon old City. It runs practically due east and west for 1,500 yards, and north and south for 600 yards.
and The northern part is on the foreshore of Kowloon Bay, the southern part is actually in shallow water about one to two feet deep for about 200 yards, shelving rapidly to about
1 fathoms in the deepest part at its southern extremity.
(i) It would be necessary to reclaim a small area in the centre for the buildings.
and
(ii) A good road bounds the northern extremity, it would therefore be necessary to construct a road from
it to the buildings.
(iii) It could be railed in from the land side, and
