Report on An Ordinance (No.34 of 1912) to amend the
the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899.
1. The object of this Ordinance is to enable the privileges
which can be locally granted by special licence to river
steamers te be conferred net only on British but on steamers
of other nationality.
2. Under the law as it existed prior to this Ordinance the
above mentioned privileges which principally relate to the allowance of carriage en steamers plying on river waters of
a larger number of passengers then would be permitted to
be carried by sea going vessels was restricted to Britisk
ships: and by this Ordinance this restriction is removed.
3. The approval of the Secretary of State for the Colonies of
noti fies the proposed amendment was simplified in a Confidential
despatch to His Excellency the Governer frem the Secretary of State dated 25/7/12.
4. In my opinion this is an Ordinance to which His Excellency the Governor may properly assent in the name of His Maj•#•
ty and on His Bekalf.
Lohan Buchnell
Attorney General.
