Communications.

The principal item under this head is one of $10,000 for an extension of about half a mile in length of the Castle Peak Road to a point where a pier can be constructed which will admit of launches calling there at any state of the tide and for the construction of a pier of about 100 feet in length. This scheme will provide improved means of communication with the populous villages of Ping Shan, Un Long etc.

The three following items are designed to improve communication with the Railway in the neighbourhood of Fanling. The present station has been found to be inconveniently situated in several respects and it is now proposed to establish a train- -halt at a distance of about 4 mile from the station, to construct a road (d) from this point to connect with the existing Fanling-Santin Road with a view to opening up building sites in the vicinity of the new Golf Links and on the other side of the Railway to connect the halt with the village of Shek Wu Hui (e) and the latter with Sheung Shui, (f), in which village there is a Police Station. These various proposals are shewn on the accompany- -ing plan.

Miscellaneous .

The excess on the original estimate for the Improve- -ment of Ap Liu Village is almost entirely due to the payment of compensation for resumption of old buildings and sites in carrying. out the scheme. Very little compensation was allowed for in the original estimate as it was anticipated that new sites could be found for most of the present occupiers 、
