RECR

Extract from Taun Wan Yat Po, Hongkong, 9REGE27 NOV 121912.

Telegrams exchanged between Chau Lo and Liu Chung Hoi.

A telegram from Hongkong reads as follows:-

To

The Governor, the General, the Commissioner of Finance, the Chamber of Commerce, the Provincial Assembly, and the News Association.

At 8 this evening, at the meeting of the Representatives of the various Guilds it was resolved that from the first day of the 9th. moon (10th. October, 1912) Canton notes should be taken as the standard and accepted in accordance with their face value, and that the various Guilds should themselves draw up a scale of fines to be imposed for any breach of this requirement and appoint special officers to deal with the matter. Thus since Hongkong will co-operate with Canton in the maintenance of the note currency, the face value of Canton notes will be restored and the Financial stresi relieved. Indeed this blessing to Kwong Tung is the result of the Hongkong Merchants' efforts.

Chau Lo.

5th. (October) 1912.)
