Sir,

REGO 18 NOV 12

The University,

324

Hongkong, 4th. October, 1912.

The Board of the Faculty of Medicine of this Univer-

-sity are most anxious that the degrees in Medicine should be recognised by the General Medical Council of Great Britain, and I have the honour to forward copies herewith of correspondence bet- ween myself and the Registrar of that Council.

You will see from the Registrar's letter of Septem- -ber 9th., 1912, that it is a necessary preliminary that Part II of the Imperial Medical Act of 1686 should be extended to the

Colony of Hongkong by an order of His Majesty in Council and I have the honour to enquire whether His Excellency the Governor can

see his way to recommend the Secretary of State to apply for such

extension.

The matter is one of great importance in regard to the status of our graduates in Ledicine, and the General Medical

Council will of course take the necessary steps to see that the

standard of our examinations is such as to warrant them in re-

-cognizing these degrees.

The enquiry in the last paragraph of the Acting Registrar's letter is evidently made under a misapprehension, for the Matriculation Examination of this University has already been

recognised by the Council as you will see from page 11 of the

accompanying pamphlet.

I have etc.,

(Sd.) Francis Clark,

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

Hon. Mr. Claud Severn,

Colonial Secretary.
