A gentleman of the name of Ismail, a large Punjabi Police orderly of H.E.'s, came to see me yesterday and asked me to write to you about him. Now to come to our muttons

The man in question, whom I know very well, did good service in the

old Hongkong Regiment, and then on its disbandment in India returne

to Hongkong and took on service in the Hongkong Police. What he is

now after is to be allowed to reckon his past service in the

Hongkong Regiment towards pension from the Police. It appears that,

according to him, men who served in the Hongkong Singapore Batta-

-lion Royal Artillery and then transferred to the Police are

allowed this boon, and as the old Hongkong Regiment was also a

local Colonial Force he thinks this might be allowed to him also.

He is a fine old man, an excellent specimen of the real nice old

Punjabi, and, if H.E. could see his way to helping him, I think he is a deserving case. He is now particularly anxious to finish his service and go back to India on pension as his wife has quite late- -ly lost her sight through small-pox and there is no one to look

after his kids.

Yours etc.,

(Sd.) W. H. Barrett.
