I have the honour to ask permission to take
three months' full pay leave and five months' half-pay leave from
the 15th. of April next, if the conditions in the Colony and in
the neighbouring Province of China is not such as to render it in-
-advisable that I should leave the Colony.

It is now nearly 6 years since I returned to
the Colony from half-pay leave. Since then I have only had four
months' vacation leave, on medical certificate, to visit Canada
in the summer of 1909, and I feel that I need a change to a
temperate climate.
