I am dirocted to inform you that the Governor- -in-Council has decided that you have not exculpatod yournulf from the charges contained in my letter of 4th. September: that you were guilty of an error of judgment in supposing that the Police

Station at Cheung Chau was not open to attack: and that you were

Euilty of blameworthy conduct in allowing the disposiv on of the

Police which obtained at that station prior to the recent attack

upon it without the express sanction of tao Govorment.

It is with much regret that the Governo.

directs was to inform you that in forwarding this decision to the

Secretary of State for the Colonies, he intends to recomend that

you should cease your connection with the hongkong Police Force. His Excellency proposes to ask the Secretary of State to transfer you to a post more congenial to you and in which you may invo further opportunity of displaying the natural ability which the Covernor recognises you possess. Should such transfer be ine -possible the Governor will recommend that you be retired on

ponsion.
